Acupuncture Information and Strategies
Acupuncture is one of the most popular, effective, and traditional Chinese treatments available. While the question of whether its results is a placebo effect or something else may still exist; some evidence is available that indicates that acupuncture can indeed be helpful for certain conditions or ailments. As such, more people are willing to give acupuncture a try after conducting their due diligence.
Acupuncture consists of the insertion of very thin needles in certain areas of the skin. The goal is to stimulate connective tissue, nerves, and muscles. This stimulation could result in increased blood flow and pain relief. Continue to read the information below to learn more.
Benefits
There are several benefits this therapeutic treatment generates. The ultimate one is improved quality of life and overall well-being. This can be achieved by a reduction in stress; a decrease of pain in areas such as the back, neck, hands, and head; a reduction of inflammation and scaring from surgery and illness; strengthening of the immune system; and so on. Acupuncture could also be used to treat respiratory disorders such as the common cold, toothaches, psychological or emotional disorders, and musculoskeletal and neurological disorders. Finally, this form of treatment can be used as preventative medicine to reduce the chances of illness and injury.
Application
An acupuncturist will conduct a pre-treatment to determine if you should undergo this procedure. This will consist of reviewing your medical history, checking your pulse, and examining your tongue and other areas of the body (that are subject to treatment). Treatment begins with the insertion of at least three needles in the extremities and additional needles at trunk points to influence and stimulate organs. These needles are left in place for up to twenty minutes. The less energy you have, the shorter the duration will be. Additional activation could be generated by connecting some of the needles to a stimulating device (typically electrical).
Risks
A few risks are involved with acupuncture, although they are rare if the procedure is performed properly. You could experience soreness, bruising, and/or bleeding at the needle insertion sites. You probably should not participate in this procedure if you have a bleeding disorder or are taking medication that thins your blood. You could attract contagious diseases such as hepatitis if unsterile needles are used. Finally, you could suffer an injury if a needle is pushed into a vital organ such as the lungs and heart. It is extremely important that you conduct your due diligence which could include speaking with your doctor and selecting the best possible licensed acupuncturist.
As a recap, acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine that can relieve pain, prevent and treat diseases, and improve overall health via the insertion and stimulation (via electric current) of needles. Various forms of this procedure are utilized across the globe. Scientific evidence that proves acupuncture’s effectiveness as a treatment for other conditions besides some form of pain and nausea is not available. Likewise, it is important that you weigh the pros and cons and seek advice from licensed practitioners and other medical professionals before undergoing acupuncture.
